Maine This majestic
Maine vacation lake is forty miles long by approximately
20 miles wide (64 x 32 km). Moosehead Lake
is the largest single body of fresh water in New
England. Offering over 400 miles (640 km) of
shoreline, this pristine lake supports magnificent wildlife
viewing opportunities. It’s home to an array of
waterfowl and songbirds, including loons, hawks, and
bald eagles. Abundant fauna include moose, deer, otter,
beaver, bobcat, and many other species. Mount Kineo,
located about a mile (1.6 km) across Moosehead Lake
from Rockwood, towers nearly 800 feet
(240 m) above the water's surface. Rich in history and
folklore, Mt. Kineo in Rockwood makes
for a great day-trip. A ferry provides transportation
to the mountain, where you can enjoy hiking or play
a scenic round of golf.
